Poland is the largest of the central and eastern european countries (CEECs) to have entered the European Union Single Market in the enlargement process. Recession was avoided and the economy is set to continue a long run of economic growth that is (slowly) bringing about a rise in relative living standards and a sustained fall in unemployment.
