Post-Brexit Trade Deals - State of Play for the UK
27th January 2024
The Guardian summarises the state of play regarding the UK's trading relationships, and those trade deals that have been agreed and those that remain to be agreed.
The net effects of deals with Japan, Australia and New Zealand isn't going to be massive, although membership of the CPTPP might have greater effect, not least as these economies grow. That said, there are a number of notable deals yet to be struck - with the US and India.
This BBC article looks at the implications of the failure of the UK and Canada to agree a trade deal for three of the main sectors of industry: cheese, beef and cars. Beyond the minutae of the sectors though - have a quick look at the overall impact of the putative trade deal - trade between the UK and Canada only accounts for 1.4% of total trade, so even if the deal is concluded it isn't going to have a major impact upon the UK economy.
