This editable and downloadable powerpoint covers some of the economic and social costs of high unemployment.
There are many costs associated with high unemployment, both economic and social. Some of the most significant include:
- Reduced economic output and lower economic growth, as fewer people are working and producing goods and services.
- Higher government spending on unemployment benefits and social welfare programs.
- Increased poverty and social exclusion, as unemployed people have less income and may be more likely to experience poverty and social isolation.
- A higher crime rate, as unemployed people may turn to criminal activity to make ends meet.
- Decreased productivity, as companies may struggle to fill vacant positions with qualified candidates.
