This topic video looks at trends in UK youth unemployment, some of the causes of a high youth jobless rate, the economic and social consequences and some of the policy options to help reduce the rate of long term youth unemployment in the British economy.

Data update on youth unemployment in the UK (Autumn 2018)
The youth unemployment rate (the proportion of the economically active population who are unemployed) for 16-24 year olds was 11.1% in July-September 2018. This was down from 11.9% a year ago and is close to the lowest rate since comparable records began in 1992.
