Barriers to Trade - Applied Examples and a Retrieval Activity

Geoff Riley

10th October 2022

We have been covering trade protectionism in class over recent days. As always there is a wealth of current applied examples to consider when analysing and evaluating.

Here is one on EU steel import quotas - it seems that the quotas are almost exhausted just months into the current period of import control. In a related story - back in July it was reported that the UK is to extend steel import quotas and tariffs for two years - reported here in the FT.

And here is news that India has raised import duty on platinum to 15.4%

And in a commentary on a long-running trade dispute, read Chris Miller from the Financial Times on The US-China chip war is reshaping tech supply chains

To help embed the concepts - here is a low-stakes retrieval activity on barriers to international trade

You'll find lots of good revision videos on trade protectionism on the tutor2u You Tube channel - here is a link to a playlist.
