Transition from primary to secondary school - impact on mental health

Over the summer, researchers at the University of Cambridge published the findings of a study that they had carried out on the impact of the transition from primary school to secondary school on the mental heath of Year 7 learners. They found that whilst these 11/12 year olds reported consistent wellbeing outside of the school environment, their reports of wellbeing in school declined over the course of the academic year. Schools, they found, generally did a really effective job in the first half-term or term of helping youngsters with the move, but that the additional support and allowances for "transition" petered out after Christmas.
