Pollution in Asia

Sarah Best

18th November 2019

In recent weeks, a toxic combination of weather patterns and industrial air pollution (from farming practices to factories) has resulted in some of the worst air pollution on record in parts of India and Pakistan.

This article from BBC News explores how some teenagers in Pakistan are taking their government and politicians to court over the 'unbreathable air - with an Air Quality Index (AQI) of 551'. The governments in both India and Pakistan have announced closures of schools in some cities in a bid to reduce the health impacts on young people.

A discussion could be held about the impacts of globalisation, industrialistion and modernity/post-modernism.

The article could be used for Global Development unit, Education and Health.
