How to avoid a W-shaped global coronavirus recession

Graham Watson

4th May 2020

A Project Syndicate piece here on how to ensure that we don't have a W-shaped coronavirus recession.

Jeffrey Frankel argues that it's all very well providing short-term stimulus, but if we want to avoid the worst long-term consequences of the ongoing pandemic, governments need to be prepared to maintain the stimulus for a period of time, or risk a W-shaped recession.

It's interesting largely because the article draws parallels between the Spanish 'flu pandemic of 1918 and today's events in a way that I haven't seen too often in the coverage of the crisis so far.
