Costa Rica at forefront of drive to a carbon neutral future

28th August 2019
The right to a healthy environment is enshrined in the Costa Rican constitution and 99% of the country’s energy already comes from renewable sources.
The government is using a range of policies including reforestation (already more than half the land is covered by forest) to bring down net carbon emissions and also prioritises investment in human capital. It also wants to become the first plastic-free country on the planet.
There is much to admire about their drive and determination. More background here from the Financial Times "How Costa Rica will complete its drive to go carbon free" (March 2019)
