Postmodernism

Postmodernism is an approach that attempts to define how society has progressed to an era beyond modernity. Within this era individuals are more likely to have a greater importance placed on science and rational thought as traditional metanarratives no longer provide a reasonable explanation for postmodern life. In addition, a postmodern society traditionally will have experienced globalisation which means new religions will be integrated into society. Therefore, society will be more likely to experience a ‘pick and mix’ culture when deciding a religion as individuals will choose a religion that best suits their lifestyle and choices.
