Why do so many professional, middle-class Brits insist they're working class?

Sarah Best

25th January 2021

According to research from the British Social Attitudes Survey, nearly half (47%) of Briton's surveyed identify their jobs as working class (and this includes those in managerial roles).

The researchers interviewed a sample of people from different backgrounds including actors, accountants and architects, and they believe that the misidentification of one's social class is related to a number of factors, such as a person's background that includes the histories of their grandparents and how individual's view this.

This article could be used for a discussion on social class and social mobility.
