Sure Start closures

Sure Start Centres were launched 20 years ago as part of the Labour Party's programme to support the wellbeing of children before they start school.
They were predominately located in disadvantaged areas around the country and offered services such as health, employment and childcare support. However, local governments have cut back on funding for these centres and in some areas, they have closed entirely.
This article could be used for a number of units within AQA Sociology: Families and Households (childhood), Work, Poverty and Welfare (deprivation) and Health.
