'I grew up in the Westboro Baptist Church. Here's why I left' Megan Phelps-Roper
21st May 2020
In a bid to publish some blog posts that are not coronavirus related, here is a video from Ted by Megan Phelps-Roper, who was once a member of the controversial Westboro church in the USA.
Megan talks about her experiences growing up in the church, whose members are predominantly from the Phelp's family and how, when she was still involved in the church would use social media such as Twitter to engage with others.
This video could be used for Beliefs in Society (religious organisations, the significance of religion and religiosity in the contemporary world).
Additional notes:
Louis Theroux released three documentaries about the family between 2007 and 2019. And Megan published a book 'Unfollow' about her experiences in 2019 (on my to-read list!)
