Ted Cruz and the super Super PACs

As Ted Cruz increasingly seems to be the main alternative to Donald Trump for the Republican Presidential nomination, the number of Super PACs supporting him has increased - the Washington Post reported today that there are now no less than 8 Super PACs supporting Mr Cruz. This is confusing for (especially rich) donors, who want some control over the Super PAC campaign to which they donate - which campaign do they choose? And what exactly is a Super PAC?
