Analysis of North Korea's latest missile test

Earlier this week, North Korea claimed that it had successfully deployed a long-range missile, following its apparent H-bomb test in January. If reports are to be believed, both of these tests are reminders of the development of the North’s nuclear-weapons programme despite global efforts to block it. According to a recent estimate it may have as many as 100 weapons by 2020 if its programme is allowed to continue. The timeline below shows the key dates in contemporary North Korean history regarding weapons and testing:
