The FT has this super video interviewing people on both sides of the rail nationalisation/ privatisation debate. A great resource to use as background to teaching the economics of private versus public ownership.

Update:

The Public Accounts Committee have suggested in a new report (April 2018) that the current state of the railways implies that the current franchising system isn't fit for purpose. This view reflects the poor performance of the Southern and East Coast rail franchises.
