Skint: The Truth About Britain's Broken Economy (Tim Harford)

Tim Harford's well-received, hard-hitting documentary about the problems facing the UK economy is now available to view on YouTube. Tim's assessment looks at the cost of living crisis, the truth about government revenue, the housing crisis and much else. An excellent primer and update for Year 12 and Year 13 economists.

In a related article, Larry Elliott reflects on the prospects for the economy under Labour. He offers to alternative scenarios: will the party turn the economy round, and win a second term in 2029, or are the existing fiscal rules, and the party's commitment to them going to box the party in and leave the economy in a worse state than it is currently.

And here is an overview of the challenges facing the new Labour government, with very real concerns about how the party will be able to reboot growth, effect a green transition, and do so without adversely affecting public finances, and keeping to its fiscal rules.
