Mariana's Manifesto! Mariana Mazzucato is undoubtedly one of the economists of the moment. Her 2013 book The Entrepreneurial State is pretty much required reading I think for ambitious sixth form economists who want to critical evaluate the notion that innovation comes mainly from the private sector in unfettered markets. In this piece for Project Syndicate, Mazzucato outlines her case for long-term patient finance to nurture investment in new technology and innovation more generally.
