How can we tame the tech giants?

I really like reading John Naughton's analysis of the digital economy, and this article is no different, highlighting the monopoly power of the tech giants, given that they control essential platforms, and benefit from almost infinite network effects in some instances.
Given this he poses the question: how can we regulate them on this basis? He argues that there's a need to focus on controlling so-called platform power. And there's a nice kicker about how the digital world might have changed the modern coup...
""Once upon a time, the first thing revolutionary coup leaders had to do on assuming power was to secure control of TV. Next time, all they’ll have to do is nationalise Amazon"
