Contrasting the growth of Twitter and Facebook

Geoff Riley

23rd March 2016

Twitter celebrated a 10th birthday this week but the social network app have been going through troubled times recently. This chart from Statista compares the 10-year-old Twitter with 10-year-old Facebook with respect to active user base, revenue, profit and market capitalization. Will both businesses still be around for their 21st birthday?

Facebook has four times the number of monthly active users, three times the quarterly revenue and is now making a significant quarterly profit. Twitter's revenue per user is actually marginally higher than for Facebook but the market capitalisation of the Facebook is on a different planet.
