Aldi plans to open one new store a week

Graham Watson

17th September 2019

Lovely theory of the firm article: is Aldi a profit maximiser, as neoclassical theory would suggest? This BBC piece suggests not - profits have fallen but the German discounter is committed to more store openings as part of their organic growth strategy.

What is the rationale for this? You might think about the nature of the market and the likely implications of this for the UK supermarket sector more generally.
