The Department for Education has been carrying out an experiment in 25 schools in deploying Shanghai-style maths teaching methods in UK classrooms, in an attempt to raise the UK's PISA standing from 26. In technical terms, the “Shanghai mastery approach” uses a highly methodical curriculum, aimed at developing and embedding a fluency, deep knowledge and understanding of underlying mathematical concepts.

Ruth has been Subject Lead in Economics at tutor2u for many years after a career of teaching Economics, Business, Politics and Maths in a range of secondary schools. She is a highly experienced A level Economics Examiner, and also teaches undergraduate Economics on a very part-time basis at the University of Oxford.
