It has been argued that technology, and particularly mobile phone technology is meant to be addictive.

Although this issue is explored in detail within the field of psychology, it is also something that could be explored in detail in sociology also.

The following video could be used in the Media topic and also within the theme of ‘new media’, which looks at social media, online gaming and websites for example.

A fantastic movie that is referred to in the clip is of The Truman Show – a film well worth watching or setting as a homework task for students to look at the role of technology (and media).
