Why the General Election in Turkey is important
1st November 2015
Here's one of those fantastic little video clips from the BBC (worth every penny of the licence fee!) that explains the reason why the outcome of the General Election in Turkey is important.
Of course, the outcome is most important to the Turkish population themselves, who have seen a marked rise in violence and uncertainty over the last few months alongside a period of time where the outcome of the last General Election has not been resolved. Whenever you see an event like this it always brings home how straightforward UK politics can be and how generally election outcomes lead to a period of stability. It indicates why the uncertainty over the May 2015 election (do you remember the days when the election result was not obvious?) in the UK was so unusual.
The Turkish elections are very important for the Western countries as well - not least because Turkey are a member of Nato and seen as a vital ally as it borders the Middle East.
