UK civil service increasingly centralised in London

97% of the civil servants working in the Department for Communities and Local Government (DCLG) are based in London and not in "communities" - this figure is up from 65% in April 2010 - and runs contrary to the government's policy of further devolution to the regions. Adding fuel to the fire is the government's recent decision to close the highly successful outpost of the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS) in Sheffield.
