Queen's Speech quick summary for AS students

18th May 2016
The annual State Opening of Parliament is the only occasion on which the 3 elements of Parliament - the monarch, the House of Lords, and the House of Commons - actually come together. Given the monarch cannot enter the Commons, she gives her Speech in the Lords. The Queen's Speech is actually written by the government, and outlines the key policies that the government would like to pass in the upcoming parliamentary session. This blog entry looks at the main proposed Bills for the 2016-2017 Parliament.
