Plualistic ignorance

Pluralistic ignorance is a fascinating social bias that describes a situation where a majority of people privately disagree with a norm or belief, but because they believe that most others agree with it, they go along with it anyway. So essentially, people are privately dissenting, but publicly conforming. An example might be if a group of people all agree that a specific policy is harmful, but they each assume that most of the other group members support the policy. So, no one speaks up, and the harmful policy continues. This bias can have negative effects on decision-making and can lead to bad outcomes for everyone.
