Which countries have the fastest internet speed?

A small island nation hoping to build and retain competitive advantage in digital industries would hope to be well up global league tables in terms of internet speed. Sadly the UK remains in the slow lane.

South Korea once again comes top of the rankings with an average connection speed of 26.3 Mbps with the USA in second place. No other country comes remotely close. And as for the UK? We seem to be continually behind the curve with average broadband speeds and lack of connectivity a particular problem and barrier to doing business in many rural areas. Our average internet speed is barely a half of that in South Korea, little wonder that we languish in 20th place.

This is one of the key supply-side weaknesses in the British economy.
