Water industry - Profits surge even as leaks and spills wash away public trust

The financial results of water company, Pennon are announced next week, and the Observer uses this to make a case for re-nationalisation of the sector, arguing that the structure of the industry is such that it has created regional monopolies guaranteed supernormal profits.
As a result, it is argued that the firms are more interested in generating shareholders than serving consumers, not least in relation to their treatment of sewage.
@SouthernWater was fined £90m for deliberately dumping raw sewage into protected seas for financial gain.
