UK achieves solar power record
27th May 2017
Great news about the nature of the UK's electricity generating capacity on Friday - nearly one quarter of the electricity generated came from solar power, breaking the previous record.
In total, at Friday lunchtime, solar power supplied more power than nuclear energy and this is despite the government removing subsidies from the renewable sector. Coal accounted for less than 2% of power generated, such that the goal of having no coal-fired power stations by 2025 looks achievable.
Wow! Recording breaking day for #solar energy, providing 8.75GW of electricity - that's a quarter of UK total demand https://t.co/GUmA5zUbN1
