Sri Lanka caught in dance between rival geopolitical powers
13th January 2023
A fantastic clip from BBC Newsnight looking at the fate of Sri Lanka in the wake of the debt crisis and the call for debt restructuring to enable Sri Lanka, as well as looking at the role of China and India in Sri Lanka's current dilemma.
It's a tale of regional rivals, and has massive implications for the island's developmental prospects. And as an aside, I'd also note that the Sri Lankan elite, represented by both its politicians, and I would suspect its Central Bank governor, seem to be coping with the ongoing crisis - and most of them will have ensured that their assets are safely kept overseas.
