OECD Regional Well Being Index

25th June 2014

Power to the regions - with this interactive OECD site that allows you to look at all sorts of aspects of quality of life - income, air quality, crime rates, broadband access, voter turnout, impenetrable nature of regional dialect - so, OK I made that last one up - but the rest of these physical quality of life indicators are covered by this survey.

However, the OECD Regional Well Being Index, available here allows you to drill down into the data and compare quality of life in a nation's different regions. This emphasises the fact that sometimes there are significant differences in well being within an economy as well as across different economies.

Its launch was flagged in yesterday's Guardian - which highlights some of the findings as they relate to the UK - here - highlighting the North-South divide. however, it omits to flag up one vital indicator of well being - the likelihood of being bought a drink by a Yorkshireman: nil.
