Land banks and the housing shortage

One of the reasons for the housing market being dysfunctional is the existence of substantial 'land banks' held by a variety of groups, notably the UK's largest house builders. However, supermarkets too, also hold sizeable land holdings.
Add in vacant and largely vacant properties and you can add a considerable quantity of housing to the nation's housing stock and this might go a long way towards resolving some of the problems within the housing market. Read this article from the Telegraph.
