Inside the Cadbury's Chocolate Factory

The FT visits the Mondelez chocolate factory in Bournville, Birmingham. The company has reinvested and set up their global chocolate research department there.

There are 23 production lines at the factory - much of which is capital intensive. Investment has increased UK chocolate manufacturing capacity feeding through to rising revenues and market share.

Labour productivity has improved with production increasing whilst employment has contracted. The business is radically different from the original quaker founders.
