Manufacturing: UK car production falls to lowest level since 1954

The decline in the number of cars manufactured in the UK to its lowest level since 1954 is concerning, given the relative importance of the sector and its contribution to the UK economy, not least in terms of exports revenues. Part of the pause reflects a pause as some manufacturers switch to electric car manufacturing, and the Stellantis plant at Ellesmere Port switched from cars to vans, but other factors, notably coronavirus and Brexit are still affecting the industry. Is this the beginning of the end?
