A genuinely interesting article that looks at how India's embracing solar power and the implications of this for development. In short, it can help connect millions of rural Indians to the power network and has the capacity to massively enhance productivity.

And the extent to which the technology has taken off is staggering: as the article notes "In November, the country unveiled the world's largest-ever solar farm at Kamuthi, in Tamil Nadu....India quadrupled its capacity in the last three years to 12GW (gigawatts)...This will almost double again this year, with India adding 10GW in 2017; another 20GW is in the pipeline."
