Put simply. No. Autarky isn't the way forward and the static and dynamic benefits of trade are, to most people, self-evident.

However, this article is interesting in the context of the rollback of hyper-globalisation and the recent increase in in-shoring. It's also essentially a piece, promoting Ben Chu's series "The New Age of Autarky?". And it is that that has the potential to be the most interesting bit of this.
