Competition Policy: Preston-to-Scotland rail fares capped

Here is a lovely example of competition authorities intervening to protect consumers.
In this case, the Competition and Markets Authority are concerned that FirstGroup and TrenItalia have monopoly power over rail routes into the West Coast of Scotland and so have intervened to cap fares.
🚄 Train passengers travelling on 21 routes between Preston and Scotland will benefit from capped fares and the availability of cheaper advance tickets following our investigation.
