Another ‘iconic’ British brand heads into administration
Pontin’s, once a major player in the holiday market in Britain, has entered administration. Some would argue that this is not surprising as holidaymakers long ago abandoned the windy British seaside for sunnier climes in Europe, but their rivals Haven and Butlin’s seem to have managed to adapt and survive. An interesting debate here is whether Pontin’s were forced into this situation by their bank or not, statements from each side are currently somewhat contradictory. This BBC News article offers the serious side to the story, and does offer hope of a happy ending as the administrators expect the firm to be sold as a going concern, but for a more amusing take on the story I must encourage you to show your classes these videos…
(I intend to start next lesson by simply showing a video and asking ‘why is this company in the news?’)
