Social Class (Beliefs)

Social class refers to the socio-economic status of an individual within society. It is argued that social class will influence which religion an individual follows due to the pressures they face within society. Churches and Denominations tend to recruit followers from the middle class and upper classes due to the organisation establish and respectable hierarchy and ideologies tend to represent this groups issues within the world. Sects tend to recruit the most deprived (working class and underclass) as the organisation provides the group with explanations for their suffering. New age movements tend to attract middle class individuals who are in expressive professions (teaching etc) which focuses on self-improvement.
