Cognitive Explanations: Depression

Cognitive explanations for depression suggest that faulty thinking/thought processes make a person vulnerable to depression. People with depression often show cognitive distortions, faulty information processing and negative thinking. Cognitive psychologists, such as Beck and Ellis, believe that these thinking patterns are the cause rather than symptoms of depression.
