Section A – Social: Q4 [2 Marks]
The Chi-Squared test is suitable because the design is independent – no person could appear in more than one position in the contingency table e.g. they were either group 1 or 2 and they either completed the questionnaire or didn’t.
Furthermore, the Chi-Squared test is also suitable when researchers are looking for a difference or an association between two variables. In this case, it could be argued that the researchers were looking for a difference in terms of whether people completed the questionnaire or not when surrounded by conforming or non-conforming confederates.
