New houses to be built on flood plains

Joanne Parkinson

24th February 2020

Planning documents show that over 11000 new houses are planned to be built on flood plains as the government struggles to find available land to tackle the housing shortage.

The areas where the new housing will be built are considered to be “high risk” by the government. Areas that have suffered due to Storms Ciara and Dennis are amongst the proposed areas. Despite warnings from groups such as Greenpeace, the government is pushing on with building on such areas as they strive to build 300,000 houses per year until the mid 20s to tackle the housing crisis.
