Try this 'Higher or Lower' activity to test your knowledge of the extent of the gender pay gap within different sectors of the UK economy.
Each year, the UK government requires medium and large businesses to report the wage differentials paid to men and women within their workforce. The government compiles this information and publishes an average median pay gap for the nation and for individual industries. The 2023 report, as with previous versions, highlighted that every single sector pays men more than women. However, the extent of that differential is different for each sector.
In this activity, you will be presented with 5 of the 15 possible sectors and required to say whether the next sector has a 'higher' or 'lower' differential. Students can repeat this activity several times as the activity draws statistics from the 15 sectors randomly.
