Trade Unions - Workers Lobby in the USA for Unionisation
19th August 2022
A growing number of workers in the United States are organising to join a trade union.
This BBC World News video looks at the background affecting companies such as Amazon and Starbucks. Inevitably, there is also some corporate resistance.
The trade union membership rate in the United States is much lower than in the UK. In 2021, the percent who were members of unions—the union membership rate—was 10.3 percent - down from 10.8 percent in 2020 and 20.1 percent in 1983. In the UK, around 23% of people in work are members of a trade union.
