It was a pleasure to launch this free teaching resource at the amazing Reimagining the Economics Classroom Conference organised by Ruth Tarrant in London on Friday. What actually makes a country a great place to live? Income? Health? Education? Environmental quality? Political freedoms? Our new free Economics resource, My Development Index, lets students build their own measure of development using real international data.

They choose the indicators that matter, decide how much weight to give each one, then see how those choices change the way countries rank.

It quickly becomes clear that measuring “development” is anything but straightforward.

The resource is designed to get students questioning familiar indicators, comparing different priorities and thinking more carefully about the trade-offs involved in judging economic and social progress.

Have a go and build your own development index here

A reminder for Economics teachers that an enormous amount of tutor2u Economics support is completely free. The resource library now contains thousands of items including topic trackers, case studies, teaching activities, videos, exam support, Data Starters and our regular Economics in the News activities.

Worth bookmarking if you haven't explored it recently
