Electric cars come of age

According to this new six minute video from the Economist, electric cars will come of age in 2018.
Prices are falling and performance metrics are improving. The network of charging points is widening by the day and car companies (and others new to the industry) are pumping billions of pounds of investment into research, testing, manufacturing and support.
China is leading the way in electric vehicles. What are some of the costs and benefits of the surge towards electrification of vehicles? The Economist argues that there are dirty secrets and uncomfortable truths about the industry at the moment - a clean grid could cost trillions of dollars.
