In this activity, students compare two drinks businesses’ ESG performance, interpret sustainability data, assess reporting transparency, evaluate long-term investment value, and produce a justified investor recommendation with improvements.

This is a great way to help students build their understanding of ESG. Students act as sustainability analysts comparing Oceanid Drinks and Perhydro Beverages across environmental, social and governance measures. They identify strengths, weaknesses, trends and risks; explain why businesses publish ESG information; and assess how transparency affects stakeholder confidence. Using the evidence, they recommend the stronger long-term investment, justify their decision through reputation, risk and financial considerations, and suggest improvements for each company. Reflection questions explore competitive advantage, targets and tensions between ESG standards and short-term returns
