Netflix & Learn - The Minimalists
15th March 2019
“We work at jobs that we hate to buy things we don’t need to impress people we don’t like”
I'm sure many people can relate to elements of this quote, and the premise of The Minimalists is two men who found happiness in reducing their assets so that they could focus on the important stuff. It examines:
How marketing and technology force us to consume more
How diseconomies of scale occur when we continue to “crave” more
The ethics of “fast fashion” and mass production
The benefits of being “lean” and focusing on what “adds value” to our lives
It covers all of the functional areas and the external environment, along with some great analysis on our obsession with more.
Click this link for a 9-page question sheet on the 1hr20min documentary. With exams approaching, it can be used as a great synoptic lesson to link together the many topics and theorists, or as a homework task.
Hope it helps!
