Who are the FANG companies that seem to dominate so much of media coverage these days?
FANG stands for Facebook, Amazon, Netflix and Google.
Two of them - Facebook and Google - are investing huge sums in helping to construct the Jupiter trans-Pacific cable. When completed the cable will stretch for more than 14,000km and will be able to carry more than 60 terabits of data a second. It is made for video and video / live streaming needs bandwidth!
Such is the insatiable demand for bandwidth / data capacity that network technology companies are now taking it upon themselves to form consortia of businesses prepared to invest ocean cable infrastructure. High capacity cables will link cities around the world including many in faster-growing emerging countries.
